The bylaw’s underlying purpose is to reduce costs and speed up the approval process of accessory residential buildings.
The bylaw essentially gives residents more freedom to build structures such as storages and tool sheds, and came as a method to achieve red tape reduction, which the Government of Alberta has been pushing for.
Under the passed bylaw, accessory residential buildings up to 150 sq. ft. in size no longer need a development permit, which was increased from 100 sq. ft.
