“While every crime scene is unique, outdoor scenes are especially challenging because agents have to work against the clock, as the elements change the nature of evidence over time,” said Clayton Drown, a special agent and OSI Det. 631 commander. “JBER conservation officers taught us blood drops in snow can be carried off by scavenging birds or a gust of wind, direct sunlight can change a footprint in snow, and a bullet casing could become difficult to recover.”
To mitigate these unique problems, the exercise focused on three techniques: how to find bullet casings, how to cast foot and tire prints, and how to collect a blood sample all left behind in Alaska’s dry snow. Dry snow is powdery and easily blown around by wind.
eVTOL vehicle was transported from Springfield, Ohio to Austin, Texas, March 23 – 24.
This effort was a proof of concept for the Air Force as the 355th Wing, the 621st CRW and other units across the force look to integrate the eVTOL technology into upcoming training.
AFWERX and industry partners are working together to aggressively develop this to support the Department of Defense as it pursues further agile combat employment capabilities.
“We are working with industry and Air Force partners to continue developing this next-generation technology to eventually be able to do anything that a traditional aircraft can do,” said Maj. Brendan Gallagher, 563rd Rescue Group chief of weapons and tactics. “Due to the hard work and preparation of our loadmasters and the 571st Mobility Support Advisory Squadron, we were able to safely and effectively load the equipment onto the HC-130J.”

“OSI plays an integral role in restoring our readiness. What this command does for us ensures the Air Force is always ready to go,” Bass emphasized. “The amount and type of work they do allows us to be successful around the world.”
Bass underscored why all Airmen should understand how important OSI is to their Air Force.
“If there’s one theme I want every Airman to know, it’s that Air Force OSI plays a huge role in helping keep all of us safe on many fronts,” she said. “They keep us honest with all their criminal dealings, their role of investigating sexual assaults and in the area of fraud, they save money.”
