A Harker Heights man is in U.S. Marshals custody following a standoff with local, state and federal law enforcement Wednesday.
Brandon Kay, 40, of Harker Heights, was arrested Wednesday evening following an hours-long standoff with law enforcement outside his home in the 300 block of Cardinal Lane.
âHe is charged with assault on a federal officer and faces up to 20 years imprisonment upon conviction,â U.S. Attorneyâs Office of the Western District of Texas spokesman Daryl Fields told the Herald Friday.
Fields provided the Herald with a copy of Kayâs criminal complaint and affidavit.
According to the arrest affidavit, U.S. Marshalsâ Lone Star Task Force arrived at Kayâs address in Heights to serve an active warrant for âpossession of a controlled substance; 200-400g, a felony under the laws of the state of Texas.â

Thomas was shot in the chest at about 1 AM in the 2600 block of S. 14th Street in Waco in October 2020. As officers arrived to the scene, they were able to locate Thomas. He was then transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
According to police, 18-year-old Pablo Villarreal was arrested this morning by the US Marshal Lone Star Task Force in Waco for a warrant charging him with murder.
Villareal is from the Waco area and was arrested during a traffic stop this morning.
Waco Police said although three arrests have been made in this case, the investigation is still ongoing and no other information is available at this time.

WACO, Texas A Waco man already in jail on a parole violation was charged with the murder of a 33-year-old man in November on Friday.
Police said Berry Freeman, 26, shot Bryan Johnson in the head on the evening of Nov. 4 in the 1900 Block of J.J. Flewellen Road.
The U.S. Marshal s Lone Star Task Force arrested Freeman Nov. 10 for a warrant on a parole violation, Waco police said.
Based on interviews and additional evidence, police were able to get a warrant to charge Berry with Freeman s murder.
