yeah. there was one gang i constructed a financial statement for the gang, and for these lower down, these were the holders of the guards brought onboard just to take care of the hostages and, you know, guard them during the ship s captivity, yeah, made $10 an hour. so that worked out to about $12,000 for spending months of their lives on a ship. and really, you know n somalia you can burn through $10,000 as quickly as you can here if you want to, right? there s always people looking to score that money. rick: a lot of countries are spending a lot of money to try to figure out ways to defeat these pirates. what do you think about those efforts? i think the naval missions, right now there s three main naval missions off the coast of somalia including task force 151 based around the u.s. fifth fleet in that area. but these are all more an exercise in defense theater, i think. they really do very little to directly prevent piracy. in the 2009 i think i calculated they stopped six attack
are you treating us one way and treating other country another way. a lot of people will looking for a consistency of some kind and they didn t hear saudi arabia mentioned as well or they think okay, syria s being dealt with differently than egypt and so on and so forth. do people still want and are they going to crave that consistency and criticize the president for not having it? well, everyone wants to have a simple answer to complex problems but i believe, t.j., in this complex situation in the middle east, one size doesn t fit all. and the president has to balance out our values in our national security interests. for example, on bahrain, he made a good statement on bahrain. but remember, bahrain is the headquarters of the u.s. fifth fleet which plays an essential role. since 1949, in guaranteeing the free passage of oil through the straits

arab uprisings their own. iran sees itself in a zero sum, balance of power competition with the united states. analysts say watch out for bahrain. it is just across the persian gulf from iran. and it used to be part of iran and population there like iran is mostly shia and see yeah protesters in bahrain are demanding the overthrow of the sunni muslim royal family. iran denies any involvement in the protests in bahrain and u.s. official sauce they don t have evidence iran is meddling there yet. watch for iran and bahrain. very close proximity. iranians certainly do have ain t in getting rid of the king of bahrain. an ally of the saudis that the iranians despise. they don t like the fact that the u.s. fifth fleet is based in bahrain adpros iran, persian gulf.
