PHNOM PENH, Cambodia – U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh, in partnership with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), is hosting a Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) virtual regional workshop on citizen journalism. The six-week course began on May 18, 2021.
“A free and independent press is vital in a prosperous democracy,” U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia W. Patrick Murphy told the participants in his opening remarks.
“More than ever, we need reporters and citizen journalists to hold government accountable at all levels and raise awareness of issues, challenges, and opportunities in society. I am confident this workshop will give young leaders from across Southeast Asia the skills to do that.”

U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh, Public Affairs Section, of the U.S. Department of State is looking for organizations to submit grant proposals to produce a report, study, or documentary that marks the 30th anniversary of the Paris Peace Agreements on October 23, 2021; analyzes and assesses Cambodia’s progress to date in meeting the pledges contained in those agreements; and recommends next steps for the Cambodian government and PPA signatory nations.
The total amount of funding available will be between $25,000–$30,000.
U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh invites proposals from think tanks or similar organizations to research and produce a comprehensive report, study, or documentary analyzing Cambodia’s progress to date in meeting the pledges set forth in the 1991 Paris Peace Agreements. The target publication date would be late October, to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the Agreements on October 23, 2021.

Phnom Penh As of January 2021, Cambodia recorded 8.86 million internet users, which indicates that digital skills are crucial to succeed in the technology-driven world. With this, the participation of women in the digital world is also essential in order to create a fair and equitable digital economy and society.
From January 27-31, 2021, HER Project (Digital Edition) has successfully implemented the first phase of the project, the five-day intensive boot camp. Through the boot camp, 15 young female students from four provinces and cities are equipped with the essential skills and knowledge on media literacy, civic understanding, digital campaigning, and project management.

SIEM REAP (Jan. 18, 2021) – U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia W. Patrick Murphy and Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia (PUC) Chancellor, Dr. Chea San Chanthan, opened a new EducationUSA Advising Center today at Paññāsāstra University in Siem Reap.
There were already two EducationUSA centers in Cambodia, one in the American Center at U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh and another at PUC Phnom Penh. This new center in Siem Reap will be a one-stop location for parents and students to learn about studying in the United States. It will offer guidance on how to research universities and scholarship opportunities, provide information about U.S. government-sponsored programs, and offer help with college applications and essays.
