The U.S. Embassy in Thailand announces an open competition for organizations and individuals to submit applications to carry out programs that strengthen the U.S.-Thai partnership, raise awareness about joint economic partnerships, and promote shared interests in a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
Applications should include content related to American culture, education, economy, or society or connection with an American expert, organization, or institution in order to promote U.S.-Thai mutual understanding.
Areas of Interest
Activities to promote the sharing of U.S. culture and values with Thai populations through educational opportunities, arts and culture, and interactive learning.

Introduction
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the panel discussion ‘Business Opportunities and Outlook in the Mekong Countries.’
I am Michael George DeSombre, U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand. It is a privilege to join you today as part of the Indo-Pacific Business Forum, the premier U.S.-sponsored business event in Asia. This year, the Forum is co-hosted by the Vietnamese Government, and I would like to thank the organizers and hosts for putting on such a successful event under difficult circumstances.
Location: Bangkok, Thailand – Ratchaprasong Intersection, near the Erawan Shrine and Central World Shopping Center
Event: U.S. Embassy Bangkok informs U.S. citizens a protest is planned today, November 18, 2020, at 4:00 p.m. at the Ratchaprasong Intersection near Erawan Shrine and Central World Shopping Center in central Bangkok. The protest location is also near the Ratchadamri and Siam Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS) stations. U.S. Government employees have been advised they must avoid the vicinity of the Ratchaprasong Intersection from 2:00 p.m., November 18, 2020, until the demonstration ends. Reports indicate this planned protest could involve a large crowd of participants and the Royal Thai Police will be present. There has been an escalation in confrontations between protesters and the RTP during recent protests.

Ambassador Edward J. Perkins is the 2020 Recipient of the Award for Lifetime Contributions to American Diplomacy.
NOTE: Ambassador Edward J. Perkins died on Nov. 7, days before this interview about his life and work went to press. He was 92. We extend our condolences to the family and are particularly grateful to his daughters, Katherine and Sarah, for helping to make this well-deserved tribute possible.
