7 PORT SHUAIBA, KUWAIT Sentinel Soldiers of the Army Reserve s Lancaster, Pennsylvania, based 1185th Deployment and Distribution Support Battalion offloaded more than 500 pieces of equipment from the container ship Liberty Promise, May 24.
This operation was part of an effort to move the final tranche of equipment from U.S. Army Central s Area Support Group-Qatar, which is in the process of deactivating. The ship came in last night around 2300 and we started unloading around 30 minutes after midnight, said Sgt. Javonne Thomas, the vessel noncommissioned officer in charge for the port operations with the Liberty Promise, 1185th DDSB.
The battalion s practice is to have the Soldiers work shifts, 12 hours on and 12 hours off, until the work is done, he said.
