Two people injured in three-vehicle crash in Bessemer Township

BESSEMER TOWNSHIP, MI    Michigan State Police from the Wakefield Post are investigating a three-vehicle crash in Bessemer Township Friday. Troopers say it happened around 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of Powderhorn Road and US-2. They say the driver of a Nissan Altima identified as Cameron Crawford, 26, of Anoka, Minnesota disregarded the stop sign on Powderhorn Road. His vehicle entered the highway and was struck by a westbound Toyota minivan driven by Susan Rhoads, 60, of Duluth, Minnesota. The Nissan spun and hit a Dodge pickup driven by Andrew Drilling, 35, of Cadott, Wisconsin that was waiting at the stop sign on Puritan Road. The Nissan then slid and hit a telephone pole, knocking it partially over.

Driver leads police on multi-state chase, barricades himself in Iron Mountain house

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI    A man who led police on a chase across the Wisconsin/Michigan border is in the Dickinson County Jail. Tuesday around 10:38 p.m. Florence County Sheriff’s deputies alerted the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office they were pursuing a suspect on US-2 and he was headed to the border. Michigan officers deployed “stop sticks” on the highway near the M-95 junction. The suspect vehicle ran over the sticks and struck a patrol vehicle. Dickinson County deputies took over pursuit of the vehicle, which slowly made its way into Iron Mountain on two tires. The suspect stopped at a residence on 5th Street and barricaded himself inside. He told police he had a child hostage and would kill the child if his demands weren’t met.

Slow down and drive safely, MSP says

WAKEFIELD, MI    Michigan State Police from the Wakefield Post are telling drivers to slow down. Troopers say in the past week two different motorists were caught on US-2 between Watersmeet and Wakefield traveling at high rates of speed. One vehicle was clocked at 101 miles per hour and the other at 99 miles per hour. Officers say it hasn’t been a major issue, but has increasingly been seen across the state and country since last year. Though traffic on roads has decreased because of COVID, the number of fatalities has increased because of excessive speeds. Troopers say driving is a privilege, not a right, so please be responsible and drive carefully.
