NORTH HAMPTON The news hit hard this week: The Urban Farmhouse Eatery is closing, leaving the community without one of its favorite gathering spots for food and comfort.
With a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page last week, owner Renee Locke explained that when she opened four and a half years ago, she hung a sign reading “Enter as strangers, leave as friends.” The sign would “shape who we became,” Locke wrote, making them grateful to be invited to be part of the lives of the community and those who patronized the Route 1 breakfast and lunch restaurant.
“Bearing witness to your traditions, your milestones, your successes and your growing families are just some of the reasons this is such a difficult post to write,” Locke stated.
Madison County, nonprofits, restaurants partner to help shut-ins for Christmas meal

During the Thanksgiving season, an employee at Mother’s Catering, in Highland, helps organize meals for delivery. For Christmas, the firm will help seniors in a partnership with Madison County.
EDWARDSVILLE Madison County is partnering with senior service agencies and local restaurants to deliver a special dinner to the elderly and/or disabled who are shut in this holiday season.
Madison County Community Development (MCCD) is working with Senior Services Plus (SSP), in Alton, Main Street Community Center, in Edwardsville, and Highland Meals On Wheels to provide funding for a holiday delivery event. The meals will be prepared by 10 locally owned restaurants.
