(AP) - A professional eater is headed to Sioux Falls to take on a challenge of excess no one has ever completed. Randy Santel, a competition eater with millions of social media followers, has accepted the “Gorilla Dumpster Challenge” at Urban Chislic, t he Sioux Falls Argus Leader reported Friday. Santel will have to consume six-and-a-quarter pounds of beef, lamb, chicken and pork chislic over kettle chips, double orders of cheese curds and fries and eight sauces. Urban Chislic co-owner Hong Phrommany said no one has ever completed the challenge.

The popular Food Network TV show is featuring Sioux Falls Daily Clean Food and Drink restaurant in its Feb. 12 episode, according to its website. The restaurant offering natural and organic foods at 69th Street and Western Avenue announced the air date on its social media as well on Monday. They slyly counted down with three D postings ahead of the announcement.

Throughout the month of January, Food Network’s  Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives will take viewers on a culinary adventure through some of Sioux Falls’ most delicious restaurants. The show’s boisterous host, Guy Fieri, visited South Dakota’s largest city in 2020, finding plenty of “flavor-bombs” along the way at restaurants such as Urban Chislic, Lalibela and ‘O’ So Good. Guy’s trip to South Dakota was also a special one because it completed the show’s goal of visiting all 50 states. “South Dakota’s culinary scene offers a lot to explore, more than most people are expecting when they visit our state,” says 

Diners, Drive-ins and Dives to feature SD smorgasbord Friday

You always save the best for last, right? Guy Fieri finally crossed off South Dakota and has visited every state in the country on the Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.” Three Sioux Falls area staples will be featured in the “South Dakota Smorgasbord” episode, which airs Friday. Featured restaurants include O So Good, Urban Chislic and Lalibela’s. The restaurants are each known for flavorful dishes with their own spin on traditional meals. The summary for the episodes says: “On this trip, Guy Fieri is hitting Triple-D’s 50th state as he crosses into South Dakota. In Sioux Falls, a spot takin’ a true regional specialty called chislic to the next level. Plus, real-deal dishes at the state’s first Ethiopian joint, and in Garretson, a Midwest-Southern mashup puttin’ their own stamp on comfort cooking.”
