The court according to Punch also ordered a retrial of the case against Sharif.
The singer was on August 10, 2020 sentenced to death by hanging for blasphemy by an Upper Shari’a Court sitting in Kano.
Shariff, however, appealed the judgement days after the court pronouncement.
While delivering the judgement on Thursday, January 21, 2021, the State Chief
Judge Nuraddeen Sagir said the lower court’s proceedings were characterised by irregularities.
The judge also ordered that the case be tried before a different judge, adding that Sharif should be granted full legal representation. Source: Pulse Nigeria

The appellate division of Kano State High Court on Thursday set aside the 10 years imprisonment passed on 13-year-old Omar Farouq who was convicted for blasphemy by the state’s Upper Sharia Court in August 2020.
The court also quashed the conviction but ordered a retrial of a 22-year-old musician, Yahaya Shariff, who was sentenced to death for blasphemy against Prophet Muhammed by the same Upper Sharia Court about the same period it convicted Farouq.
Their lawyer, Kola Alapinni, who disclosed the developments stated that the court ordered that Shariff be tried afresh by the Upper Sharia Court.
Alapinni according to PremiumTimes said the High Court in its judgment on Thursday ruled that Shariff’s earlier trial was fraught with procedural errors warranting a retrial.

Following allegations that Dauda Kahutu aka Rarara, a popular Kano-based singer notorious for singing campaign songs for President Muhammadu Buhari and other APC politicians, eloped with another man’s wife and featured her in a music video, an Upper Sharia Court has called for investigations.
The Shariah Court sitting in Kano on Tuesday ordered the Divisional Police Office of Kwali Quarters to investigate claims that Rarara featured the married woman, Maryam Muhammed, in his music video without the consent of her husband.
This development came after the woman’s husband, Abdulkadir Inuwa, had filed a suit before the court alleging that the singer eloped with his wife and featured her in a recent music video, titled, ‘Jihata, Jihata ce,’ The Punch reported.
