Public input sought on Upper Saranac Lake watershed | News, Sports, Jobs

(Provided photo — Guy Middleton, Upper Saranac Lake Foundation) PAUL SMITHS A public participation meeting on a Upper Saranac Lake watershed management planning effort is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 18 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. This is to be the first of three public sessions hosted by the Upper Saranac Foundation and the Paul Smith’s College Adirondack Watershed Institute. The groups will present the results of the 2020 Upper Saranac Lake public survey and provide opportunities for the community to contribute ideas toward the future management of the watershed. The Upper Saranac Lake Management Plan builds on decades of monitoring and management activities on the lake and throughout the watershed. The resulting document will define community priorities related to watershed resources and establish the framework for future state funding grant proposals.

– James Carpenter is originally from outside New York City, having grown up on the mean streets of Scarsdale. His love for the Adirondacks was inspired by years spent at a small summer camp on Upper Saranac Lake. In 2003 he moved with his family to Lake Clear. Before becoming a teaching assistant at the high school, James has had a myriad of jobs including limousine company owner, social studies teacher, copier salesman, stay-at-home dad and tele-evangelist. He is the father of Charlie (TA extraordinaire in the elementary school) and Maggie (college sophomore at the University of Rochester), and rides the coattails of his wife Laura, who is a scientist. He is a graduate of both St. Lawrence University and Fordham University. He is a proud member of the Elks and has been the master of ceremonies on Trivia Night at the Elks club for the past 23 years, with the help of his good friend Tyler Chase.
