UPDATE: One Cooling Center to Reopen in Portland Amid High Heat

Update August 18, 11:30 am: One daytime cooling center will reopen in downtown Portland Thursday as the region remains under a heat advisory. Temperatures are expected to peak near 100 degrees in Portland for the second day in a row. Overnight temperatures only dropped to 74 degrees Wednesday, breaking the previous record for warmest overnight temperature ever recorded at the Portland International Airport and providing minimal relief to homes without air conditioning and people living.

UPDATE: Two Cooling Centers to Open Sunday in Portland

Update August 7, 12:03 pm: Two cooling centers will open at 2 pm in Portland Sunday as temperatures return to the triple digits. The Midland and Gresham libraries have extended their hours until 8 pm to help people stay out fo the heat. The Lloyd Center Mall has also extended its hours until 10 pm on Sunday. Temperatures are expected to peak around 100 degrees Sunday, August 7, and remain in the 90s on Monday,.
