this is the focus of the fbi for the past year and a half and something like 70 arrests of people either willing to carry out attacks here or trying to get to syria to join isis. when s happened the fbi says since the paris attacks is a renewed focus on what they consider the people on the spectrum who have responded to this isis propaganda and are moving closer to going operational. they may be doing things entirely legal right now but the fbi wants to be there in waiting if they decide to do something against the law and what the fbi director has said is there are dozens of people in that category. i ve been told that that number is probably around 50 that they have sort of increased the surveillance of since parris to make sure there s not a copycat response or someone trying to, you know, follow on to paris with some kind of attack here. so that s the big focus, thomas. homegrown extremism as you say as opposed to what the paris attack apparently was, which is a plot exported from
the pistol the rifle. authorities say as well that the passengers prevented a massacre. there s now new information about the suspect and his alleged ties to terrorism. brian to do is here looking into this part of the story. we have learned this suspect was on the radar of european counterterrorism officials. by it s not clear if any wand monitoring him. his lawyer says he had found the weapons in a suitindication abandoned abandoned. he hadded idea of getting on the train that he heard healthy people take amsterdam to parris. he thought of doing this to feed himself and do a robbery. reporter: french officials dismiss his tornado.
missing plane, mh-370. joining me now from parris is cnn s senior international correspondent jim bitterman along with cnn safety analyst and safety inspector david soucie in new york. jim, how long might it take to determine the origins of this piece of that boeing 777? well, they re peckiexpecting look at it in toulouse, franz. and they ll say right away that it s mh-370. i don t think there s people that doubt this. there s only been four crashes of 777s in the world. all three of them have been over land, including london and in san francisco and one that was shot down in the ukraine. over one, mh-370, went down over water and this flaperon, this part that fell off was found floating in the ocean is not just the kind of thing that falls off an airplane. it had to be an impact that would take that part of the wing off. so i think it s all signs are this is part of the mh-370
