between the kansas city chiefs and the philadelphia eagles, security is a multi-agency effort. what types of threats does the fbi prepare for when it comes to the super bowl? a wide variety, anything from active shooters to skploes irv threats, ied threats, bomb threats, suspicious packages. reporter: from the operation center, the fbi along with 40 federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies will use these 360-degree cameras to have eyes on every inch of the stadium. scott brown is the top federal official in charge of security. i was in new york for 9/11, i ve seen the devastating impacts of terrorism on our soil. i am deeply committed as are all of my partners to make sure we don t have an ins zeenlt like that here. when your team s up patrolling, what would they be looking for? we re going to be looking for anything out of the ordinary. it could be anything from smoke to disruptions.
noticing russian submarines increased activity in the atlantic and think one of their targets of surveillance, not attack, surveillance are the under sea cables that run under the atlantic between the u.s. and europe carrying vital data, voice, internet, all the communications fundamentally between the two continents. this is some of the most critical infrastructure the u.s. has. what they noticed is russian submarines stepping up patrolling, very secretly trying to maneuver near the cables, not to cut them but maybe poke at the united states and say here we are because there are also sensors that warn the u.s. when a submarine, when something is approaching those cables. they also last month saw a russian intelligence ship, surface ship very unusual come down the east coast of the united states, go down to cuba and then go back across the atlantic. we are told u.s. naval
they go back and actually serve in communities that they come from. these cops are hispanic, correct? and this is a heavily hispanic community. do we know how long they had been working this beat and if they knew this neighborhood well, if they were even from this neighborhood? reporter: well, from what i understand and from talking to police chief charlie beck and the residents who live here, these three officers are veteran officers with the los angeles police department. i am told they are known names and faces. they work this beats. they patrol this area, and on sunday afternoon, they were p patrolling this afternoon, on bike patrol. people know them. they are of hispanic descent. they know their names, and their names have been released. this community, as you may remember when you were working here years ago, this is a
reporter: it s key here. monsoon season is over. you can expect for march april and may to be more action. because they have stepped up patrolling in the gulf of aden, they had doubled the attacks in 2009 but able to keep the hijackings to about 50. when doesn t sound good but a marked increase in the attacks, that s not too bad. what s going on are two things, because the gulf of aden, a small narrow channel is so well policed right now, the somali pirates are going further afield, more into the issomali basin, that s a problem. another problem is that those forces out there are dealing with a lot of threats coming from terrorists right now in the area. they have a lot to deal with. you can expect throughout the next few months, there will be more and more to deal with. unfortunately for the families who have loved ones on these
