MANILA- Most parts of the country will experience rain showers due to the low pressure area (LPA) last tracked within the vicinity of Talacogon, Agusan del Sur, the weather bureau said Tuesday. "(The LPA) still has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, but it will continue to bring rains over most of the Visayas and Mindanao and parts of Bicol Region," weather forecaster Grace Castaneda of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said. Castaneda added that the LPA is expected to pass through the Visayas and Mindanao, and is also forecast to bring rains over Palawan in the coming days. "Take precautions against possible flooding and landslides," she said, adding that residents of those areas are urged to monitor updates from PAGASA regional offices. MANILA - The Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) fully awarded a fresh issuance of PHP35 billion 10-year Treasury bond (T-bond) on Tuesday following the high demand for the debt paper amidst the uptick in its coupon rate. The coupon rate of the T-bond, which will be issued this January 20, is 4.875 percent higher than the 4 percent the same tenor fetched during an auction on July 21, 2021. The average rate of the debt paper stood at 4.831 percent, lower than the 4.8795 percent in the secondary market on Monday's trading. BTr's last award for the same tenor was on Nov. 9, 2021 and the paper fetched an average rate of 5.130 percent. Total tenders for the T-bond during the day are more than twice the offer volume at PHP72.24 billion. CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela - As cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases soared anew in Isabela, the schools' division has suspended classes and other teaching-related activities for 12 days from January 17 to January 28 this year. Schools division superintendent Dr. Madelyn Macalling, in her memorandum released on Friday, said "all synchronous and asynchronous classes shall be put on hold while submission of academic requirements and conduct of other teaching-related activities must be moved to a later date." Macalling said she consulted the Isabela provincial government officials and higher-ups of the education department on the decision. "Private schools, in consultation with their respective parents' associations, may exercise their own discretion relative to the suspension of classes and K to 12 learning activities when Covid-19 risks in their respective areas are high," she added. Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Liland Estacion, in a virtual presser Friday afternoon, said the number of active cases more than doubled in just four days. For January 11-14, the province logged 147 new cases as opposed to only 63 infections on January 10, she said. Two new deaths were also reported - one from Bindoy and the other from Tanjay City - both unvaccinated.
