rational debate is something we need. we started at a place we all could agree. we have been concentrated on one segment of immigration and not another, skilled immigration. let s play something interesting that jennifer hunt said to me the other day. the way to think about this best, when immigrants come in and do different things from natives, allow everyone to specialize more in what they re doing best, that increases the efficiency of the economy, more output for everyone, increases output, gdp per capita for natives and benefits of course the immigrants as well. it is that contribution of the unskilled immigrants that people overlook when they push the so-called merit based or what s called in other countries point system. one of the problems we have in the country, we associate unskilled labor and immigrant labor, they re not necessarily
playing field. the president understands that and his team. we like competition. competition helped us develop our technologies. we have tremendous competition in the industry from other domestic producers and it s been good for the industry and the business. it s not competition. this argument by some of the politicians about free-trade they don t understand what free-trade is. they should get out in the market and run a manufacturing facility and have your manufacturing worker have to compete with the chinese government instead of a chinese manufacturing worker. there is no competition there. laura: tell me about the average employee you have. the business fails. laura: the people in your firm. tell me about them. what are they like? the people that helped us build the company starts from all different kinds. graduate students and undergrads and hard working, unskilled labor that come out of high school and go to work in a manufacturing facility. they work hard. they re inn
incomes for their familiment if they decide not to vote for the republican party in the future, it would be nuts in my mind. as long as president trump continues to put through the sort of pro growth, move the regulations and things that have helped the families. wage growth, right? we saw wage growth up 3.1% and benefit who benefitted to your point the most, i hate using the word, like quote, unquote, unskilled labor, it s not unskilled, it s different. not necessarily the ph.d. s. you re not going to go home and brag to your spouse you got 3% wage. it s the biggest overall rate in a decade. we ve got to put it in perspective. it was a rough decade. but why. it was a 3.1% raise and it was really something that hadn t been experienced before. by the way, you d celebrate just having a job. number one. neil: and getting a little more for that, but is it your sense that those dynamics hit home in
polls, this economy is healthy. how does that factor in. this is why most voters we think will go to the status quo if we are only judging how they feel about what s in their packets. if you look at the things going right for the u.s. economy, we ve had gd growth, more than 3.5% for the past two quarters, unemployment near record lows, 3.7%, we haven t seen that since 1969, so that s great. i want to highlight on that job front. another set of data tomorrow. that s going to be really important to psychologically for voters. bret: what jobs look like. exactly. as we heard from the labor department, wages are growing. up to .7%. that s the best in a decade. people, especially unskilled labor, are seeing more in their pocket. that s the one piece that was missing in this whole recession and recovery, it was, okay, i still don t feel like i have more money.
let s make a different point here. first of all, all due respect to the first lady, jack, let s get the record straight here, melania trump, highly educated, speaks five or six languages. this isn t about judging the president or his family. it s about judging who we are as a people and what are values are. you can make your hyphenated american point, that s fine. but it s somewhat aside of what our core values are here. stephen miller saying the language of the poem was added later. what is that supposed to mean? it s not eastbouven factually e accurate. the poem was a gift from france. what does it say to the rest of the world about who is welcome? well, i think part of what they re trying to say is let s have some commonsense immigration. when you have unskilled labor, 50% of them unskilled labor coming in and winding up on welfare, does that really help build a great nation if you are
