and it sounds like for the last interviews with trump campaign officials, today, over the next four weeks, the plan is this barrage of television ads and a, as he s described it, a kind of unshackled donald trump on the stump and in the third debate. they re hoping his hope is to drive up those hillary clinton unfavorable numbers in states like ohio and north carolina and florida, ride the support that rob portman, the senator from ohio, is now sort of receiving in that state, and hope to be getting up to like 44, 45% and that will be enough. that is the approach. i don t know if it s a strategy to count on your opponent s voters not to turn out, because that s a gamble. but i think, to some extent, at this point, donald trump isn t going to convince a lot of people that he has a different character than he, in fact, does. what he needs to do is drag her down to where he is. right. kayleigh, does i mean, is
trump from winning that state, don, because donald trump needs north carolina in order to win the presidency. i want to talk more about him lashing out at different republicans, especially the house speaker. i want to bring bob and mark, listen to this, because this is from john pedesta, one of clinton s campaign ceo for clinton? yeah. he said an unshackled donald trump makes hillary clinton s top aides happy. they re concern ed what they re doing is this race for the bottom, he s going to turn this all out rate to the bottom and they re afraid that s going to suppress democratic votes come november 8th. that s their strategy. bob kusack, will that work? certainly democrats have to be worried about that. you and i know a lot of people who don t know to vote for, they re sick of this election and may vote for congressional
campaign tell us that when you looked at the new ad that s out against hillary clinton where it shows her stumbling on september 11th, that s one example of being unshackled. trump himself said on a rally also the shackles are the establishment, right, so being free of the establishment in his view not having to make nice with members of the republican party inside the beltway is one way that he is now unchained. his campaign manager, according to sources, has a conference call with members of congress who have been supportive of the campaign to thank them for what they re doing. overtures coming from team trump to d.c. you talk about advisers. who travels with trump now among those advisers? reporter: somebody we see on the road a lot is steve bannon that s interesting given he holds a high level position within the campaign. typically you don t see that on the road. bannon is typically with him. communications director or one of his communication staffers, hope hicks travels with
what does he mean when he says he s unshackled? does it mean that he loses inner praise. he s going full breitbart? there are two things that are happening. he is at war with the speaker of the house. i have known paul ryan for 20 years. he is the most thoughtful, decent, effective leader the republican party has. he s one of the intellectual leaders of the conservative movement. here you have donald trump in full out war against this man. i mean, we are we are way south of the worst case scenario here for republicans and conservatives. then, charlie, how does the gop survive this? we re now seeing reince back on board on the team. what s the future hold? by the way, that s a very interesting question because reince priebus and paul ryan are very, very good friends. what s reince priebus going to do?
