Without a 1 gain, it has been the past five or six sessions, four days with big gains or losses . Oliver a little bit of volatility back from a quiet work it and a bit of positivity here. Really the data that is going to be real to market, people are looking at the same situation where it has been without a lot going on. The same time, look around and theres not a lot of great options. Lets look at what is happening here. We are up to about 1. 5 gain on the nasdaq with tech stocks doing very well. Apple, as julie mentioned. Apple and the s p doing very well. Look at what were talking about with the five day move if you look at the s p over the last few days. Things have gone pretty volatile. The swings are big. Athave that big move down 2. 5 . It will look at the move back up on monday. And today, looking pretty positive again. Happening. What pretty interesting trends in terms of the oversold and overbought nature of the s p 500. There is still about 8 of the s p 500. Oversold would b
Are wrong about what happens in college. Better alternatives, its good to have money in the bank. Your kid decides they dont want to go to college who want to start a business its nice to get the kids money and let them use it to start their business instead of paying for them to binge drink or something. In terms of how much, there are a lot of people in the audience with badges that say they are in Capital Management or Something Like that and they could probably advise you better. My own portfolio suggests im not a good source of Investment Advice and should not be listened to. The one piece of advice i would give is i would probably save money outside of the 529 account and the reason for that is the 529 account you get a bandage or soprano in taxes but it has to be spent on college. With the amount of change going on that might tie you up. Entirely possible that if lots of people wanted to do something other than college the law may may change in you will be able to user for Somet
Arts education at all. As a matter of fact people who actually read and think and write are in surprisingly short supply. I have a friend who has a business and she heard a couple of people. Her job was to write catalog and amazon product descriptions. They came out with a distinguished Marketing Program and they could not write a coherent paragraph. She was like having to rewrite them. There is a lot of demand for people who can actually read and think and write. Its significantly unmet demand right now. Its not that there is no role for liberal arts. I think when people do get on their high horse about engineering but think the perception is engineering has remained a rigorous subject. If you go to school in Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering you come out knowing a largely agreed upon body of stuff and its important stuff for when he do it works. I think there is not not the sense anymore that when you get a liberal Arts Education that you do something similar. I think
[applause] questions . [inaudible] s James Taranto points out that the u. S. Supreme Court Decision that essentially outlawed the use of iq tests in lieu of College Degrees to permit people who are not College Graduates to get jobs that matched up with their iqs because in some way they were racially discriminatory i believe. I dont remember the name. It had disparate impact. Disparate impact case. It strikes me that when you speak of credentialing of some sort that is in a College Diploma you might encounter in people for example of taking on line courses and i noticed harvard is starting an on line Course Program very recently so this is moving in the ivies as well. He might nonetheless encounter some similar credentialing problem. What are your thoughts about back . I think its possible but i dont think its likely. I think as possible but dont think its likely for two reasons. I think iq tests have a very special place in American Social and political history and i think competency
And its been a while since we didnt have any the irs is going to become increasingly dysfunctional in terms of its basic mission. And my concern is not what do we collect with our own efforts, my concern is at some point the voluntary Tax Compliance system begins to erode. And thats not an on off switch. And you cant wake up one day and say, wow, i didnt know that was going to happen, heres some more money. So part of the reason im so serious about this is that people need to understand the fiveyear implications and ramifications of where were headed. And as ive said in other contexts, i dont want anybody to say we didnt warn you. So you should treat this as your warning that this is a real problem, and its a serious problem, and were beyond the simplicity of saying well, well cut your budget and youll be more efficient. Or well make sure you know what youre doing, you know . Cut our budget again and i know what were going to do. Were going to have fewer people, well have technology th
