Eddie Van Halen with a statue in his former hometown of Pasadena, California is now under the direction of a close ally of the guitarist.
A statement says that his longtime tech
Rudy Leiren is “chairing a team that will bring a memorial statue honoring the late, great guitar virtuoso to Pasadena, California.”
Michelle Garrett, a special projects manager with the city, says they are “reviewing various ideas that have emerged…and the city has been in touch with the firm that represents the interests of Van Halen. At the appropriate time, after a range of issues are more fully explored, staff will return to Council with an update on the type of memorial that respects the family’s wishes and complies with local guidelines for memorials.”
Eruption by Van Halen completely reset the trajectory of rock guitar when the band unleashed it as part of their self-titled debut album in 1978. The song s influence is immeasurable, and a new violin cover of Eddie Van Halen s signature solo is further evidence of the late legend s genius as a musician.

A violin cover of Van Halen’s “Eruption” has been unleashed on the world.
The rendition comes courtesy of Unlucky Morpheus, a Japanese metal band that’s been together since 2008. The star of the show is Jill, the group’s violinist and only musician to appear in the song’s video. With the exception of a few full-band stings, the performance is all hers, and the soloist delivers with a fury rarely showcased on her classical instrument.

The Van Halen tribute is featured on
Loud Playing Workshop, a new album from Unlucky Morpheus released earlier this month. The instrumental LP features covers of songs by several notable western acts, including Dream Theater, Steve Vai and Racer X.
