LAWRENCE Four students at the University of Kansas are nominees for Udall Undergraduate Scholarships, which recognize students who demonstrate leadership, public service and commitment in the fields of tribal public policy, native health care or the environment.
KU’s nominees:
Anna Krause, a junior in ecology, evolution & organismal biology and English
Lydia Yuengling, a junior majoring in architecture
Kaci Zarek, a junior majoring in ecology & evolutionary biology
The Udall Undergraduate Scholarship is a federal scholarship that honors the legacies of Morris Udall and Stewart Udall, two former Arizona lawmakers whose careers had an effect on American Indian self-governance, health care and the stewardship of public lands and natural resources.

LAWRENCE The 40th class of University Scholars and their faculty mentors were recently recognized during digital receptions hosted by the University of Kansas. The University Scholars Program is designed to recognize and encourage academically talented and motivated sophomores who have demonstrated intellectual achievement and curiosity.
Competitively selected from KU’s sophomore class, University Scholars receive a $1,500 scholarship and are assigned a faculty mentor to support the development of their academic interests and engagement with research. The close and continuing working relationships between professors and University Scholars, as well as the seminar’s role as a vehicle for interdisciplinary exchange on a topic of contemporary interest, provides a rich and challenging environment for all participants. The University Scholars program prepares students for academic excellence now, while at KU, and in leadership roles once they have graduated.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. Penn State has launched a national search for a new dean of the Schreyer Honors College.
Peggy A. Johnson, dean of the college and professor of civil and environmental engineering in the College of Engineering, will retire from the University on Aug. 15.
Reporting directly to the executive vice president and provost of the University, the dean of the Schreyer Honors College is responsible for planning, budgeting, student recruitment and retention, fundraising, and the quality of teaching and learning experienced by students in the college and the Presidential Leadership Academy.
