The vehicle was still running and no one was around the vehicle.After members of the Winston-Salem Police Department, the Forsyth County Sheriff s Department and the Triad Bloodhounds responded to the area to search a heavily wooded area nearby, Effler s body was found. WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. A missing Winston-Salem man was found dead Thursday afternoon.
A Silver Alert was issued for 88-year-old, Byron William Effler, Thursday after his vehicle was discovered stuck in a ditch.
Winston-Salem police conducted an extensive search and later discovered Effler s body in a construction zone at the Northern Beltway project.
Police said a construction crew on the Northern Beltway project found Effler s 2005 Dodge Magnum and contacted them. The car had been driven off the road and was stuck in the mud on the former ramp that leads from University Parkway to Northbound U.S. 52. The vehicle was still running but no one was inside or around it.
