The University of Vermont announced it will be requiring students to get a COVID-19 vaccine.
The mandate will take effect once the federal Food and Drug Administration grants full regulatory approval to at least one of the available vaccines.
The FDA has currently issued emergency authorization to shots from 3 manufacturers – Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson and Johnson.
Pfizer applied for full approval in early May. Moderna filed for the same endorsement last week.
If full approval is granted to either, UVM students returning to campus for the Fall 2021 semester will have to show proof of vaccination from any of 3 vaccines under emergency authorization.
