Finnish airline Finnair is closing its Tartu-Helsinki route at the end of October. The route, the only direct flight between Estonia's second city and the Finnish capital, was only reopened in March.
Not all hospitals in Estonia are currently equipped to deal with prolonged power cuts. In the event of a power outage, Estonia's larger hospitals have the capacity to remain operational for several days. However, some of the country's smaller hospitals would only be able to continue functioning for a period of less than 24 hours.
Coronavirus patients in the most severe condition may soon start to be transported to Finland for treatment there, news portal Delfi reports as Estonia's healthcare system continues to be stretched to its limits amid soaring Covid rates. The numbers of patients being talked about at this stage are small, however, just about reaching into double figures.
Virologist Andres Merits told ETV's daily affairs show "Aktuaalne kaamera" on Sunday that Estonia has moved too slow in administering third coronavirus vaccine doses.
