ground-breaking approach. it s being called the most significant advance in cancer research in decades. it s only been tried in three leukemia patients so far. all in advance stages of the disease with three other treatment options. the university of pennsylvania experiment created armies of what they call cereal killer cells. here s how they did it. blood was taken from each patient and the t-cells were removed. scientists inserted harmless version of hiv into those cells and millions of those cells were then injected back into the patienents. their intent was to use the patient s only blood cells to kill their cancer cells. it workeke they targeted cancer cells and not only destroyed existing cancer but new cancer as it emerged. this is an exciting study. it s exciting, because it takes principles that we ve been working on for decade, applies those to patients and produces truly meaningful results.
