Medical training is stressful even under the best of circumstances, and so it’s been a school year like no other for those aspiring to careers in healthcare as well as for those who teach them.
Dr. Beth Phelps trains nurses and nurse practitioners. She’s a professor at The University of Illinois College of Nursing, Chicago.
“I had students who were working nurses, and most of them were already working in COVID I.C.U.s. They were having life stressors, homes stressors . . . they had family members that got sick. They had family members who died.”
