Thomas J. Condon, 80
Thomas Joseph Condon, former president of Urban Engineering, passed away at home surrounded by family and friends. He was 80.
Mr. Condon, a graduate of the University of Detroit Jesuit High School, received his undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo and his law degree from the Detroit College of Law.
Mr. Condon worked at Urban Engineering in Allen Park, beginning as a crew boss, then studying to become a registered land surveyor and, ultimately, becoming president of the company.
Mr. Condon was the only registered land surveyor and attorney in the state of Michigan in the late 1970s. He loved spending his time outdoors and continued to survey local sites and landmarks until his recent retirement.

because cynicism cannot overshadow the nation’s enduring desire to establish what the Constitution calls a more perfect union. I believe America’s best days are still ahead, and that the ideal of the American Dream is still alive. I believe politics and faith are entwined: Faith brought Pilgrims to Massachusetts, and faith has sustained American democracy for nearly 250 years. Faith is required, because campaigns don’t just decide our leaders; they test our convictions.
When Joe Biden takes the oath of office on Inauguration Day, he will become America’s oldest president, and only the second Catholic president. Kamala Harris will be the first woman to serve as vice president. She will also be the first vice president who is Black and, like me, Asian American.

Religion and science are often seen as incompatible, but that’s never been how Detroit native Guy Consolmagno felt. The 68-year-old, born in Harper Woods and raised in Birmingham, always thought his pursuit of understanding how the universe functions was, in fact, also about becoming closer to God.
Both passions were born in Michigan where, by day, he attended the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and by night he gazed at the heavens through a portable telescope he bought with trading stamps.
