LITTLE ROCK, Ark. Arkansas Senator Mathew Pitsch (R-Fort Smith) announced Monday (Feb. 1) that he would be seeking the GOP nomination for State Treasurer.
The election is scheduled for November 2022.
Pitsch was elected to the Arkansas State Senate in 2018. He is the Senate Majority Whip (assistant to the floor leaders) and served in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 2015 to 2018.
He also serves as the vice-chair for the Senate Transportation, Technology and Legislative Affairs Committee. He is a member of the Senate Insurance and Commerce Committee and Senate Efficiency Committee.
Pitsch describes himself as a conservative, small-business advocate and successful economic developer.

As the Fayetteville Police Department launches its social work internship program, the Fort Smith Police Department is waiting to find out if it s been awarded a grant that would fund a part-time licensed counselor that can work on opioid and substance abuse related issues. That s in addition to the department s Crisis Intervention Unit, which was launched last year with two officers and the hope of expanding it to three or four in 2021.

At 68 years old, Sherry Marshall says it s going to be weeks before she can get an approved COVID-19 vaccine under Arkansas s rollout plan, so she opted to join a trial for the AstraZeneca vaccine with the 66 percent chance she got the real thing instead of the placebo. Meanwhile, local pharmacies, like Debbie s Family Pharmacy in Rogers, are urging patience as they alone have a vaccine waitlist with more than 7,000 names on it.
FORT SMITH The building for St. Boniface School, which closed in July 2019 after 132 years of Catholic education, is now home to the Community School of the Arts.
The school, which began as the Academy of the Arts at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith, became independent in 2016. It provides music, theater, dance and visual arts classes for 800 children and adults through after-school and weekend classes and residencies in local schools.
“We were running out of space for our programs at St. Bart’s (St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church). We were happy to move into St. Boniface in January and have a campus with an auditorium, a stage and space to spread out,” said Dr. Rosilee Russell, CSA executive director..
