UT s Longhorn Band members will be required to play Eyes of Texas or can join new, separate band Sabrina LeBoeuf, Austin American-Statesman Replay Video UP NEXT After weeks of uncertainty over whether members of the University of Texas Longhorn Band would be required to play the school s controversial alma mater,  The Eyes of Texas, student musicians have an answer. Despite previous messaging that no student would be forced to sing or play the song, the school announced Wednesday that Longhorn Band members will be required to play it. Additionally, the school said that for students who do not want to play The Eyes of Texas,  a new band will be formed in 2022. This separate band will not include the alma mater as required repertoire.

Bill Evans Jazz Festival returns for 20th anniversary

The 20th anniversary of the Bill Evans Jazz Festival will commence on Wednesday, April 14 through Saturday, April 17, to showcase university student and faculty jazz performances in addition to a guest artist and other school groups from around the region. After last year’s festival was canceled, Director of Jazz and Percussion Studies Michael Brothers set out to plan this year’s celebration and was able to get the event approved by the university with several new restrictions in place. Brothers said the event usually allows for up to 25 groups from schools around the region to register for performances as a part of the university’s partnership with the Louisiana Association for Jazz Education. Less than 15 groups are participating this year, but Brothers said the schools, as well as Southeastern, are grateful for the opportunity.

Lee University School Of Music To Present “A Night Of Jazz” Friday, April 9, 2021 - by Eliza Souers, Lee University A Night of Jazz 2020 Lee University School of Music will present “A Night of Jazz” on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Conn Center. The event will be a joint concert performed by the Lee Small Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble and will also welcome guest artist Jon Hamar. The ensembles will perform a variety of works, including “Babylon Sisters” by Steely Dan, “Snakes” by Sanborn, “I’ll Take Les” by Scofield, “There Will Never Be Another You” by Harry Warren and Mack Gordon, “Is It a Crime” by Sade, “What a Fool Believes” by The Doobie Brothers, and others.
