After announcing in March that it would be postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the 2021 Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon has a new date.

On Monday, the event announced that it will be holding its annual races on Oct. 23-Oct 24 later this year.
In a release, the marathon said that it has been working with the City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County and the State of Ohio on safety protocols for the event dating back to last summer. The marathon has also partnered with University Hospitals Sports Medicine in an effort to develop guidelines to hold an event that is safe for all who participate.

CLEVELAND – (May 24, 2021) – The Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon announced today that the 2021 in-person race will be held Oct. 23-24 and will return to downtown Cleveland.
The marathon team is committed to holding a safe in-person event and has been working closely with health officials at the City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County and the State of Ohio since the summer of 2020 to do so.
“We are thrilled to have a date for our in-person event and can’t wait to welcome our runners, volunteers and spectators back to Cleveland,” said Jack Staph, executive director of the Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon. “We remain confident in our health and safety plan that has been developed with local and state health officials and University Hospitals, and we thank our runners for their patience and understanding.”

Challenge Series (includes 5K/Half Marathon, 5K/Full Marathon, 10K/Half Marathon, 10K/Full Marathon). The races must be run two consecutive days (one distance per day).
The marathon encourages runners to document their training, progress and results on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter and to use hashtag
#IConqueredMyLand. Runners can also submit their results from May 15-20 when they complete their events and can upload a finisher’s photo if they choose. The link to post results will be live on www.clevelandmarathon.com beginning May 15.

CLEVELAND – The Union Home Mortgage Cleveland Marathon announced that the 2021 race and related events, scheduled for May 15-16, have been postponed until the fall due to COVID-19.
The marathon team is committed to holding a safe in-person event and has been working closely with health officials at the City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County and the State of Ohio since the summer of 2020 to do so. Ultimately, the city advised that the race be moved to the fall.
The health and safety of runners, volunteers and spectators are the marathon’s top priorities, and the team will continue to work with officials and its medical partner, University Hospitals Sports Medicine, to hold an event that is safe for all who participate. For those who do not feel comfortable with an in-person race, virtual options for all race distances will be available.
