Quad City Hospital Has 16 Pregnant Nurses
The nursery at one hospital in the Quad Cities is likely to have an extremely busy year, and that s just housing the little ones that the hospital s nurses will be giving birth to in 2021.
UnityPoint Health Trinity in Rock Island, Illinois currently has 16 nurses on their staff that are pregnant, and that number may go up. The hospital s nurse manager, Cherie Saldana, told Our Quad Cities that we re anticipating a couple more staff members to come forward soon with confirmed pregnancies.
The 16 women are all expecting sometime between May and October. For all of the women, it s either their first or second child.
First patient in Iowa to have robot-assisted surgery has good results
Davenport, Iowa (Quad Cities Times) Carolyn Richardson didn’t know she’d be making history Monday morning.
Richardson, 57, was the first patient in the Quad-Cities to receive orthopedic robot-assisted surgery using the Stryker Mako SmartTechnology TM system the first time such advanced technology has been used in the area for partial and total joint replacements. The robot-assisted surgery is revolutionary in terms of minimally invasive incisions and recovery time.
Two of the Mako robotic systems were purchased by UnityPoint Health-Trinity and Mississippi Valley Surgery Center to be used at the Bettendorf hospital and the MVSC, 3400 Dexter Court, Davenport.

Both UnityPoint Health - Trinity and Genesis Health System are partnering with local organizations to openly inform Black and Brown community about the COVID-19 vaccine s safety and effectiveness.
A study done by the Kaiser Family Foundation reports that 17 percent of Black Americans and 37 percent of Latinx Americans say they would definitely get the vaccine.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. Dozens of first responders pile into Unity Point Health Trinity on Tuesday, January 26, 2021. But this time they re not taking a patient there, they re taking one home.
That patient is Jim Nelson. Jim is a 911 dispatcher for the Rock Island Arsenal. He started on the Arsenal back in 2004 as a guard. In 2007 he became a dispatcher for Arsenal s fire and police department. He came down with Covid-19 back in November 2020.
Meet the first baby of 2021 that was born at UnityPoint Health Trinity
MOLINE, Illinois (WQAD ) Nora Grace Hessman was was born at 12:20 a.m. on New Years Day, January 1, 2021 at UnityPoint Health Trinity in Moline.
Nora was born to parents Brittany and Mark Hessman of Coal Valley, six days after her due date. Her parents’ firstborn.
“Nora wasn’t interested in making an appearance in 2020 and we don’t blame her,” said Brittany. “We just feel blessed to have a healthy baby girl regardless of when she arrived.”
Baby Nora weighs six pounds, 13.5 ounces and is 20 inches long.
“2020 has undoubtedly been one of the toughest years in healthcare but being able to celebrate this birth brings such a joy to our team,” said Barb Anderson, Moline Birthplace Lead RN. “This signifies the hope that 2021 will bring change and good for those who need it most.”
