Kita dikejutkan dengan gejolak yang terjadi di dunia Arab. Dimulai dengan rvolution de jasmin - revolusi melati di Tunisia yang berpuncak pada jatuh dan kemudian larinya Presiden Tunisia Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali ke Arab Saudi, 14 Januari 2011.
Nama revolusi ini mengingatkan kita pada rvolutions colores - revolusi berwarna, yang terjadi di bekas negara-negara komunis. Revolusi ini, sebenarnya lebih merupakan kudeta ketimbang revolusi, dan ditengarai diarahkan dari jauh oleh Amerika Serikat. Untuk menghilangkan kesan asosiasi dengan revolusi berwarna, para aktivis gerakan di Tunisia lebih memilih menyebut diri mereka sebagai rvolte de Sidi Bouzid - dalam bahasa perancis atau dalam bahasa arab, yang dapat diartikan aksi dari Sidi Bouzid, wilayah di mana aksi pertama kali meletus pada 17 Desember 2010, pasca kematian bakar diri, Mohammed Bouazizi.
