There has been no reported case of any tourist contracting COVID-19 in Jamaica since the country reopened its borders to international travellers on June 15.
The ‘Resilient Corridors’, where movements by visitors are restricted, have apparently done their jobs, according to Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett. He explained that local tourism interests took the decision to only open areas that they could “effectively monitor and manage”.
According to Bartlett, the effectiveness of the resilient corridors in keeping workers, communities and visitors safe is now being patterned in other jurisdictions.
“To date, there has been no known case of transmission of COVID-19 along the resilient corridors, which is the proof that our highly regarded health and safety protocols are working,” said Bartlett while addressing the House of Representatives recently. He stressed that this is testament to the high level of compliance by tourism stakeholders.
