Each week, american artifacts takes viewers into historic sites, archives, and museums across the country. Up next, we visit the National Constitution center in philadelphia to learn about the creation of the u. S. Constitution in 1787 and to see several early drafts. Jeffrey welcome to the Constitution Center. I am jeffrey rosen. This is the only institution in america charted by congress. I am so excited to show you a new gallery we have opened. American treasures, which contain the five rarest early drafts of the u. S. Constitution. Not even at the Constitutional Convention were these five drafts displayed in the same place. Now thanks to the Great Partnership of the Historical Society of pennsylvania and David Rubenstein, we have been able to open this gallery and display the stress together these drafts together, and tell the story of the evolution of the text of the constitution into the draft that was ratified in 1787. It is so exciting. I cannot wait to show it to you. Lets go

I know your father was the chief photographer for the philadelphia inquirer, but that does not mean that you would become a photographer. It started with the photographers at the philadelphia inquirer. I used to go back and harass them and then end up upside down. In the print barrel [laughter] i just was enamored with what they did in the business. Justther passed away before my 15th birthday. But i knew what i wanted to do the rest of my life. And i did not know how i was going to do it, but i was on a mission to try to have gone hook on to the news media somehow and become a part of photojournalism. And i was lucky enough to do that. I got out of the marine corps and i had applied at upi news pictures. As the boss said to me in new york, we got so tired of getting letters from you to have a job that we decided to stop the letters and hire you. I ended up coming to a

Also was the largest employer during his lifetime. When he died he was still operating his brewery, he was the oldest brewer in the world at that time. It was a technological innovation of its time. He lived here with his family until he died in 1945 and his wife died in 1956. Good evening. I hope youll excuse all this but i have been taking some time off from my job to look into something important to all of us that seems to be confused. What i mean is missiles, highperformance airplanes. Why do we have so many . Where are we going with all this. A fellow asked me that in london not long ago. Ansell give him a simple answer and thats the reason for all this homework. It seems to me that we have to understand just what we are building, how each of these missiles and airplanes and to whydetermined strength, and we have developed them and what we do.
