The United Nations Support Mission for Libya (UNSMIL) is an integrated special political mission established on 16 September 2011 by UN Security Council Resolution 2009 (2011) at the request of the Libyan authorities to support the country s new transitional authorities in their post-conflict efforts. UNSMIL’s mandate was modified and extended by the Security Council in resolutions 2022 (2011), 2040 (2012), 2095 (2013), 2144 (2014), 2238 (2015) and 2323 (2016). Its current mandate is stipulated by the latest UN Security Council Resolution 2376 (2017), which extended UNSMIL s mission until 15 September 2018.

The parliament’s approval of Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibeh’s cabinet represents the biggest opportunity in years for a resolution to Libya’s conflict.
The UAE on Wednesday congratulated Libya, its government and people, for the decision taken by the parliament to grant confidence to the Government of National Unity, headed by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh.
On Wednesday, Libya’s long-divided parliament approved an interim government mandated to bring the fractured country together after a decade of chaos and violence, and to oversee elections in December as part of a UN-backed peace plan.

The Libyan Parliament to meet Monday in Sirte for the vote of confidence for the government of Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaib (Reuters) Cairo - Asharq Al-Awsat
Libya’s parliament will meet on Monday ahead of a vote on the unity government headed by PM Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaib in Sirte.
Sources close to Dabaib revealed that he carried out a secret visit to Abugrein on Saturday, and then returned to his hometown in Misrata.
During his visit, he met with leaders from the Government of National Accord without reaching an agreement on opening the road linking Misrata to Sirte before the confidence session.
