Union Township sued over extraction ordinance

A private citizens group believed linked to a proposed mineral extraction operation are suing Union Township, hoping to get an ordinance it adopted earlier this year thrown out as unconstitutional. The ordinance, adopted in May, sets conditions and restrictions for mineral extraction operations in the township. Attorneys for Concerned Citizens of Union Township say that makes it a zoning matter and not a matter for routine policing. In late May, they asked the courts to throw out and ordinance as a violation of their client s rights in both the state and federal constitutions, and also a violation of state law.
