Lithgow City Council is inviting artists and community members to submit artworks for a special exhibition documenting the 2019/20 Black Summer bushfires.
The exhibition, titled ReNew, will be hosted at the Union Theatre Gallery in the lead up to the major bushfire readiness expo being planned for later this year. ReNew will present artworks by the local community that respond to the bushfires, capturing our collective experience and subsequent journey to recovery and resilience.
“The fires marked a major chapter in people’s lives.” Mayor Ray Thompson said. “As well as the extreme devastation, the exhibition will reflect upon and honour the remarkable displays of service, courage, hope and strength.”

Following recent front of house renovations and construction of new back of house facilities, Lithgow City Council launches the renewed Union Theatre.
The Union Theatre now has first rate facilities to attract a greater number of local and visiting performers and artists. In 2019/20 a new two level back of stage wing was constructed incorporating new change, storage and amenity rooms and elevators making much of the theatre wheelchair accessible. New industry standard technical systems were installed making the venue able to support the needs of contemporary performances and diverse events. These works were funded by the NSW Regional Cultural Fund and Lithgow City Council.
