Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday said the recent decisions taken by the administrator of Union Territory Lakshadweep would lead to the destruction of traditional means of livelihood and unique culture of the island, PTI reported. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pawar sought his intervention, and said the decisions taken by the administrator were “unwarranted and irrational”.

As part of the country’s fight against the second wave of Covid-19, the Indian Navy has deployed ‘Oxygen Express’ to island territories.
The Oxygen Express delivered Covid relief materials like oxygen cylinders, rapid antigen testing kits etc., to Lakshadweep on Sunday.
After the Indian Air Force (IAF) transported Covid relief items from one part of the country to another, the Navy is now carrying out operations to ensure essentials are provided in far-flung areas.

Union Territory Lakshadweep and National Co-operative Development Corporation (NCDC), an apex finance entity under the Union Agriculture Ministry have inked a pact to scale up operations of the farmers and fishermen for better access to quality input, technology, credit and market through economies of scale, informs a press release issued by NCDC.
This will be done through establishing Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and Fish Farmer Producer Organisations (FPPOs) in the island where one out of every seven persons is a fisherman.
The MoU was signed by Sundeep Nayak, Managing Director of NCDC on behalf of the central finance agency and Advisor to Lakshadweep Administrator A Anbarasu in the presence of Lakshadweep Administrator Praful Patel.
