UN Elsie Initiative Fund launches second programming round
NEW YORK, 29th April, 2021 (WAM) The Elsie Initiative Fund for Uniformed Women in Peace Operations (EIF) of the United Nations has launched its second programming round.
The EIF, launched on the 28th of Mar 2019, is a global multi-donor trust fund that aims to support the sustainable deployment and meaningful participation of uniformed women peacekeepers. It is one of our commitments to implement the Women, Peace and Security agenda under the Secretary-General’s Action for Peacekeeping Initiative (A4P) and will remain a priority during the next phase of A4P and A4P+, said Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations (DPO).
This event, co-hosted with Canada, will launch the Elsie Initiative Fund’s second programming round and formally announce the recipients of the first programming round.
The event will also include a panel discussion with Member States who received funding in the first programming round and two award-winning women peacekeepers military and police. Member States, who are either new contributors to the Fund or who have made additional contributions to the Fund following its launch on 28 March 2019, have also been invited.
The event aims to focus on the important and innovative work of the Elsie Initiative Fund, as well as the broader progress of the deployment of uniformed women in United Nations peace operations, and showcase Member States’ progress and good practices.
