MIKE CROWLEY/Meadville Tribune Only three days after announcing that they would close indefinitely, Meadville Community Soup Kitchen is preparing to reopen its doors on Wednesday. Elaine Burkholder, the soup kitchen’s president, said in an email to the Tribune on Monday that the soup kitchen will be able to remain open under new COVID-19 guidelines issued by Gov. Tom Wolf on Dec. 10. The guidelines forbid indoor dining at restaurants and impose restrictions on indoor gatherings.

Whole Darn Thing giving out meals to the hungry

By Mike Crowley Meadville Tribune Dec 14, 2020 Dec 14, 2020 When they heard that the Meadville Community Soup Kitchen would be forced to close due to the statewide ban on indoor dining announced Friday, Alicia Unger Hutchinson and Doug Hutchinson decided they weren’t going to stand by and let that happen without responding — not for one darn minute. The couple, along with their Whole Darn Thing Sub Shop co-owners Lauren and Dustin Roberts, decided to take action. By Sunday morning, they had a plan: The sub shop, located about four blocks away from the soup kitchen’s headquarters in Stone United Methodist Church, would take over the task of providing free meals to those who need them.
