cases. cory lovelace popped into my head. and i read the report. reporter: the name mean anything to you? yeah. i knew i knew curtis lovelace. cause he was had been at one time one of our assistant state s attorneys. reporter: there wasn t much to read in the file, truth be told. a statement from curtis the husband, police interviews with the three older children. and the pathologist s summary of her autopsy findings with some photos. so you knew what had happened in 2006, sort of, or yeah. i knew that she had passed away on valentine s day of 2006. reporter: what was the medical examiner s finding about the death of that woman? that was an undetermined, was the original autopsy. reporter: what did that mean to you? i don t know whether you d encountered that before. undetermined could mean a lot of things. but in this particular autopsy, there were things listed as suspicious or traumatic findings. reporter: for instance, the report mentioned that abrasion o
because that would mean that the animal activity and the decomposition may have been slowed. but if decomposition was advanced, we may not get that much from the body itself. and we d have to then of course rely on forensic evidence found in the van or his car or at his home or on the telephones or other devices and credit cards and so forth. but i think the autopsy will likely be able to at least give us some idea of the time of death or date of death. and we re hoping that there s a cause of death. and from that and all the other circumstances the manner of death will be determined. and that s either homicide, suicide, accident, natural or undetermined. and in cases where a body is found skeletonized, sometimes if there s no actual fractures or tool marks on the bones, sometimes it s just
if that was a result of his interactions with police. the medical examiner not listing a manner of death, whether to call that homicide or accidental or undetermined, but we do know that they labeled the manner of death, saying that it was caused by cocaine-induced agitated delirium, complicated by motor vehicle collision, physical struggle, inflicted head injury, and restraint. now, the state investigation and that federal civil rights investigation that was opened late last year are both still ongoing and so no really clear timeline on when this investigation is going to wrap up and when this family or this community can expect more answers in this case. alex? okay, priscilla thompson, thank you so much for that update from monroe. joining me right now, california congressman ro khanna. congressman, i m glad to see you. on the heels of priscilla s report there and your familiarity with this story
struggle, inflicted head injury and restraint. though notably that report did not list a manner of death. if it was a homicide, accidental or undetermined. and so i also had an opportunity to speak with the family attorney just a little while ago and he tells me that they are expecting within the next couple of months to see some action on this case. as a reminder, the state investigation has been ongoing for two years now. the family filed a wrongful death suit last year and that was when the federal civil rights investigation was opened late last year, but for now, all of these investigations still ongoing as the public is beginning to get more information about this case. alex? it is all stunning, priscilla thompson, thank you so much for that. we will bring in mark claxton, retired nypd detective and with the black law enforcement alliance. welcome.
