KATHMANDU, March 26: India has unexpectedly extended its indefinite ban on onion exports, contrary to traders' expectations. The Indian government, in light of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, issued a notice prolonging the export ban until further notice.
In a recent development, the Poultry Union Dimapur (PUD) announced temporary suspension of the indefinite ban that had been in effect since August 10 midnight. The ban prohibited the import of poultry consignments from Assam after PUD alleged of certain individual operating a syndicate and charging Rs. 30 per kilo to consignments meant for Nagaland.
