Learning to love books is what the book festival is all about. In this session, ron chernow will describe his biography and certain other popular founding fathers. One thing i learned from the story of president grant is how people can evolve and through persistence and hard work, acknowledge and overcome their imperfections. Its an incredible story that reminded me that a person can
American heroes, as we commemorate the 75th anniversary of the american victory in world war ii and a victory it was. On september 2, 1945, the great general Douglas Macarthur accepted japans Unconditional Surrender aboard the u. S. S. Missouri in tokyo bay. It marked the end of the deadliest conflict in Human History and the ultimate trial of american freedom. It was a big day. It was a great triumph, great country. And our country is greater than ever before thats whats happening and its what it is. With a greater military, where the greater military than weve ever had before. [applause] were deeply moved to be joined this afternoon by world war ii veterans all of whom ive met, all of whom are tough. I dont want to mess around with any of them, ill tell you right now, whose blood, sweat, grit, courage and unfailing devotion made that epic victory possible. These brave americans raced into he fires of hell to vanquish tyranny, dethrone patientism and defend the american way of life. Y

Some good news for tomorrow. Tomorrow will be a few degrees cooler than today au gres. But it will still be hot. Hot enough we are looking at the excessive heat warnings and advisories. Two colors on the map. The pink is the excessive heat. The difference is important. That only applies over here, pleasanton, san jose this is where the heat is more serious. This is 108. We talk about extremes. The excessive heat use a significant rest of heat related illnesses of you are not in the air conditioning and hydrating. This is the heat advisory in the day. This is in effect until 9 00 tonight. The National Weather service will probably extend this. This is about 1 degree of importance below a heap morning. On october 7th the reports back to richmond and rights to le suggesting he is ready to come back, but at least with the army of Northern Virginia, lee wanted a more vigorous person to take charge. He never recovered the use of his right arm. At this point because of the bullet exiting through his throat he cannot speak. Lee is having none of that. On october 17, he orders long streak to return and resume command of the first core of the army of virginia. North of the james river. Lee is going to take charge of the defenses around petersburg itself. By march 29th, the siege petersburg has been going on since june 18 of 1864. At this point it runs 37 miles. His last the outside railroad is going to be controlled by Confederate Forces at five forks. April 1st of 1865, union troops were captured at five forks to the south. At that point, lee has no option but to evacuate richmond in petersburg. Longstreet leaves petersburg about 7 00 that night. Within two hours, he has his first troops fr
