The specter of suicide bombing that is synonymous with insurgency in the northern part of the country seemed to have made a landfall in the southern part of the country with what appeared to be an attempted suicide bombing in Ebonyi State Tuesday.
This first experience in southern nigeria happened when the vest laced with dynamite the suspected suicide bomber wore exploded.
The incident, which occurred at Afikpo town in Afikpo North Local Government Area, came on a day police stations were again attacked in Enugu and Imo states.

The Imo State Police Command, on Tuesday, killed two bandits during a gun duel that lasted for hours in the Ohaji/ Egbema axis of the state.
The operatives also recovered a service rifle and ammunition from the slain bandits.
The police spokesperson in the state, Bala Elkana, who spoke to our correspondent in Owerri, said the bandits were suspected to be part of the gang that attacked the Owerri Correctional Centre and the state Police command headquarters in Owerri, on April 5.

The Imo State Police Command has killed two hoodlums suspected to be masterminds of the attack on the State Police headquarters and correctional centre sometime in April.

According to the statement, the hoodlums identified as Uchenna Elendu and Elu Osinachi were gunned down on Monday in a well-coordinated operation at Ocha Community, Awara in Ohaji/Bema Local Government Area of the State.

Men of the Imo state police command have killed two hoodlums that allegedly masterminded the attack on the command headquarters and Correctional Centre in April this year, The Nation reports.
Disclosing this on Tuesday, 25 May, Bala Elkana, the spokesperson of the state police command, said the Command on May 24, carried out a well-coordinated operation at Ocha Community, Awara in Ohaji/Bema Local Government Area, Imo State. He said the hoodlums were engaged in a gun battle.
”During the gun duel that lasted for about two hours, two suspects believed to have masterminded the attack at the Police Headquarters and Correctional Centre, Owerri on 5th April, 2021, were fatally injured. The suspects are Unchenna Elendu ‘m’ of Umukusu Ocha area and Elu Osinachi ‘m’ of Umuobube Awara.
