警察はトラックを運転していた梅澤洋容疑者（60）を逮捕し、危険運転致死傷の疑いで捜査していますが、調べに対し、事故当時の状況について「小学生の列に気が付かなかった」などと説明していることが捜査関係者への取材でわかりました。
警察は12日午前、現場に同じ大きさのトラックを配置したうえ、梅澤容疑者を立ち会わせて現場検証を行い、事故当時の状況を確認しました。
