Major fire breaks out at a godown in Goregaon East

Mumbai: A major fire broke out in the Goregaon East area near Ratnagiri Hotel on Tuesday. The blaze erupted around 6:52 pm. Initially, the fire was termed to be a level two. However, later it was declared as level three. A fire was reported in Samna Parivar locality and is restricted to a few scrap godowns and shanties over an area of 15,000-20,000 square feet, and it continued to rage at midnight. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries from the incident. Eight fire engines and seven JT were rushed to the spot. Four more engines were sent for the fire-fighting operation. A total of 12 fire engines are at the spot. The fire extinguishing work is in progress till late at night.

Citizens above 60 years of age and those above 45 with co-morbidities are eligible to get inoculated during the second phase. They were asked to get themselves registered in advance on the Centre s CoWIN 2.0 portal, however, several people complained that their names did not show up on the portal at the Centre even after registering.

A senior Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said that there are 59 active cases currently in the locality. Considered the biggest slum settlement in Asia, Dharavi has, so far, reported 3,710 recoveries.
