florida governor ron desantis is casting blame for his failure to catch fire in the republican presidential race, at least so far. his message, it s the media s fault. it s pretty clear that the media does not want me to be the candidate. i think that they ve tried to create narratives that somehow the race is over. this is going to be a state-by-state contest. we ve worked really hard to build the type of organization in places like iowa, new hampshire, south carolina that you need to actually be able to win these early contests. and we re going to continue doing that. let s break that down. joining us now cnn political commentators karen finney and alice stewart. you heard desantis defense. but isn t it true that the governor is slumping in the polls right now and he s really only secured one major big-name endorsement from the oklahoma governor. he said it s hard to say that
allow ukraine to come in, but only after the war, is that right? that s right. that s my view. we re not going to allow an alliance based on mutual self-defense, any attack on one has an obligation for others to come to aid. we won t go to war with russia or start a broad-based european war with russia. we re just not going to do that and have been clear all along but should provide a very clear commitment that ukraine is eventually going to be a part of nato. that s a very strong sign to vladimir putin. putin needs to know. the world needs to know. the ukrainians need to know they ve proven themselves but just importantly vladimir putin needs to know. he s not going to win this or wear us down or wear ukraine down. we are making a commitment, and he s ultimately going to lose this. do you think, congressman, ukraine should become a member of nato immediately after the war or does it need to take additional steps as president
comment ifs about ukraine. you feel the same way. you you don t think we should be sending all this money to ukraine, right? well, i mean, there s no doubt about the pact that nobody wants toss provide aid and comfort to putin. he s committing war crimes. that being said, i think most people are highly sympathetic with ukrainians. they re defending their freedom, their children, their territory. but i will say back here many in wisconsin the war in ukraine is not a popular thing. and, again, i ve got to i don t see, i don t see this getting better day after day. there may have been a situation where we prevented putin from invading. i don t think he would have done so under trump, but under biden s weakness he did. once invaded, once we were not able to repel him initially, now this just grinds down because nobody s going to be bombing moscow cities to reduce the popular support for the war in russia, and you just grind ukraine down, you just destroy it bit by bit, kill more people
