Danish Eurovision winner enters UK singles charts at number 15 | IceNews

The 2013 Eurovision Song Contest winner Emmelie De Forest’s debut single has entered the British Top 40 charts at number 15. The Danish singer’s hit, Only Teardrops, follows a long list of Scandinavian Eurovision winners’ singles to achieve success across Europe. Her single comes on the back of 2012 Swedish winner Loreen and 2009 Norwegian winner Alexander Rybak’s successful Eurovision winning entries in previous years. Only Teardrops has not only performed well in Europe, it has also reached the Australian Top 40, highlighting the fact that the Eurovision Song Contest is popular even outside the continent. In the past, winners of the contest have regularly entered the UK’s top 40, but few have entered as high as De Forest. In 2010, Lordi of Finland reached number 25, while 2010 winner Lena, from Germany, only got to number 30, despite her single, Satellite, being a massive hit across the rest of the continent.

Kings of Leon claim sixth Irish Number 1

Kings of Leon collect their sixth Number 1 on this week’s Official Irish Albums Chart with When You See Yourself. The Nashville group’s eighth studio album was the most purchased album of the week in Ireland on CD, vinyl and download, joining Because of the Times (2007), Only By The Night (2008), Come Around Sundown (2010), Mechanical Bull (2013), and Walls (2016) as chart-topping records on Irish soil. In doing so, Kings of Leon match Radiohead as the international group with the most Irish Number 1 albums of the millennium, picking up a sextet of Number 1s since 2000. The overall group with the most are Westlife, with 11 scored in the past two decades.

Get to know: Joeboy, the next big Afrobeats star

Earlier this month, Nigerian artist Joeboy released his long-awaited debut album, the contemplatively titled Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic.  The response, particularly in his homeland, has been huge; perhaps unsurprising given the 22-year-old has been on a sharp upward trajectory since the release of 2019 s Love & Light EP.  The record is a confidently slick affair, a 14 track, feature-less set that strikes a clever balance between sounding both joyously hopeful and cooly serene while nodding to the current Afrobeats superstars. Its current single, Focus, has seen his sound reach new territories, recently becoming his first headline entry on the UK s Official Afrobeats Chart.
