The Indian companies included ONGC Videsh that will set up a finance company for treasury operations and Wipro, which has applied for techfin operations at GIFT City, Managing Director and CEO of GIFT City, Tapan Ray, told media at the summit on Thursday.
With the government announcing relaxation in liquor prohibition laws for GIFT City, speculation is rife whether it will extend the same relaxation to other places like Dhordo of Kutch, Saputara of Dang and Statue of Unity in Narmada.
While Gujarat's decision to relax liquor prohibition in the GIFT City has evoked mixed reactions, the All India Mahila Sanskritik Sangathan (AIMSS), a women's organisation, has launched a campaign against the move.
The relaxation comes barely three weeks before the launch of the 10th three-day Vibrant Gujarat Summit, which is expected to see the opening of the offshore campus of Australia's Deakin University in GIFT City.
