Plane Crash: Reps minority caucus calls for investigation The COAS, Ibrahim Attahiru, and 10 others died in the military plane crash on Friday in Kaduna. ADVERTISEMENT The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has called for an investigation into the crash that killed the Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attairu. Mr Attahiru, a lieutenant general, died alongside 10 others after their plane crashed in Kaduna State on Friday. The caucus, in a statement by its leader, Ndudi Elumelu (PDP, Delta), called for a “system-wide investigation” into this crash and two other military plane crashes. “Our caucus calls for a system-wide investigation into the cause of the crash as well as the last two crashes of our military planes which also led to the loss of lives of our gallant and promising officers,” the caucus said.

2 min read About 24 hours after it was declared missing, the Nigerian Air Force Alpha Jet is yet to be found. The spokesperson for the Nigerian Air Force, Edward Gabkwet, said the fighter jet lost contact with the radar in Borno State earlier that day. Mr Gabkwet, an air commodore, said the plane disappeared while on interdiction mission in support of ground troops. He said the mission was part of the ongoing counterinsurgency operations in the North-east. “The loss of radar contact occurred at about 5:08 pm on 31 March 2021,” he said. “Details of the whereabouts of the aircraft or likely cause of contact loss are still sketchy but will be relayed to the general public as soon as they become clear. Meanwhile, search and rescue efforts are ongoing.”

The aircraft crashlanded at Bassa village just before the runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. The casualties Fl. Lt. Haruna Gadzama; Flight Captain, Fl. Lt. Henry Piyo (co-pilot); Flying Officer Michael Okpara (Airborne Tactical Observation System Specialist); Warrant Officer Bassey Etim (ATOS Specialist); Fl. Sgt. Olasunkanmi Olawunmi (ATOS Specialist); Sgt. Ugochukwu Oluka (ATOS Specialist) and Aircraftman Adewale Johnson (Onboard Technician) have since been buried at the National Cemetery, Lugbe, Abuja.
